Projectoree 2000
Newsletter #6, 5/27/2000

Greetings to All.

This is the last Projectoree 2000 Newsletter.

1) Finances I (in followup to Newsletter #5)

* No additional receipts were submitted.
* Troop 624 donated their $1 overpayment.
* Troop 1916 requested (and received) a rebate of their $28 overpayment.
* Troops 104 (1), 167 (2), and 624 (5) still have not contacted me regarding the extra patches they ordered (and are again requested to do so upon receipt of this email.)
* No one has requested additional patches.
* No one has indicated that they have extra T-Shirts to sell.
* All reimbursement checks will be mailed out on Tuesday, May 30.

2) Finances II - This Year's Accounting; collective payments totalled $3882.50 Collective receipts totalled $3422.08, generating a surplus of $460.42 for Projectoree 2000.

3) Finances III - Surplus Reconciliation; as of last May, the Projectoree surplus stood at $703.61, which included the unpaid Council invoice for the Webelos Woodsmen patches ($155.12). That invoice was just paid (only took a year!) Following the Scouting for Food Drive, we reimbursed Dave Carlson (CC-106) $102.25 for the rental costs of the panel truck needed to transport the food from Westover Baptist to the Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC) in South Arlington. Following the Leadership Council 2000 JLT, we reimbursed the O/A $151.97 for their registration shortfall. These two charges reduced the 1999 Projectoree Surplus to $449.39 Adding this year's surplus ($460.42) gives us a current surplus balance of $909.81

In light of the above figure, it is my intention to drop the registration fee for next year's Projectoree from $6 to $5, unless we receive additional requests for reimbursement over the upcoming year.

4) Lost and Found - A) "Ben Y." used to be a Scout in Troop 1916; no one is quite sure how his cap ended up at the Projectoree, but I will be returning it to 1916 at the June Roundtable regardless. B) No one has claimed the "generic" Swiss Army Knife (no initials or other distinguishing marks) which was found (I believe) in the Staff area; therefore, it will end up in Troop 111's "Knife Safety" Module Box. A worthy fate.

5) Evaluations - Very few additional comments were received. Denise Mason (CC-505) noted that no-one came to the Knots and Lashings teaching session held at 4 PM - which is certainly disappointing - and it didn't appear many showed up to the Stove and Lantern Safety or Firebuilding sessions, either. All these late-afternoon activities appeared to be victims of the heat and humidity. We may need to rethink this aspect of future Projectorees.

Gene Berger (SM-1916) noted that as the afternoon wore on, each successive group of Patrols showing up at the Radioactive Basketballs event was less enthused and more worn out. This is in line with comments made by a number of Patrol monitoring Adults in 111 and in other Troops. Given all this, plus the fact that most SM's reported that their Scouts "really enjoyed" this year's Projectoree, I guess we'll just write off the lower evals to the heat and humidity. That may be the easy way out, but it also appears to be the most accurate explanation, too. It was like mid-August out there.

There were no significant suggestions for improvement(s) for 2001.

6) Final Patrol Standings (from Neal Wood) - Neal indicated that he mistakenly inverted the third and fourth placing Patrols. However, we have agreed to let things stand as announced at the closing campfire. Since the actual third place Patrol was from Troop 111, I doubt if anyone (other than maybe my Scouts) will complain!

As always, the following results are provided for your curiosity and information only. Final standings are comma-delineated only, as follows:

7) Next Year's Projectoree - Easter is April 15th, 2001; therefore, the 2001 Projectoree is tentatively scheduled for the weekend of April 27-29, 2001. Note that this is currently listed on the NCAC Calendar as the date for the Chain Bridge District Spring Camporee; however (and speaking my own opinion only), I strongly doubt if the District will hold a Camporee next Spring - basically because there's no-one willing to run it.

If we run two Projectorees, the second will be held the following weekend, May 4-6, 2001, and will be exclusively for the McLean Troops.

As I did this past year, I will make a general solicitation of interest in November or December. The overall format and protocols will adhere closely to those used for Projectoree 2000.

------------------------

Thanks to one and all who worked for this year's Projectoree! I hope to see you all next year!

- Dr. Bob
