Projectoree 2001
Newsletter #5, 4/12/2001

Greetings to All.

Two Weeks to Go!

This is Projectoree Newsletter # 5, and gives the current status report resulting from Meeting #2. Please read it carefully, and discuss it with your Troop's Projectoree Subcommittee. Don't "Skim" It, READ IT! Note that all of the most urgent taskings are summarized at the very bottom of this document.

1) Camp Wilson Visit

This year's site visit is scheduled for THIS SATURDAY MORNING, April 14th. If you wish to partake, be at St. Agnes at 8:15 am, or meet us at the gate to Camp Wilson at 9 am, your choice. I don't believe the gate will be open, since it's Easter weekend (so campers unlikely), but if it is, please wait for us at the gate anyway - don't go into the camp. FYI, the Saturday directions to Camp Wilson are posted on the Troop 111 website, Projectoree subpage. I would expect us to leave Camp Wilson by no later than 10:30.

2) Website Postings

Rich Sheehey (ASM-111) has been busily posting all of the various handouts from Meeting #2 on the Projectoree subpage. You are strongly urged to encourage your Patrol Leaders, Senior Scout Staff, and Adult Leaders to read those sections which are most pertinent to your Troop's participation in this year's Projectoree. "Information is Power."

3) Changes from Newsletter #4 and Meeting #2

* We have expanded from 25 to 27 Patrols (and included Troop 151).

* Total (predicted) attendance has increased from 271 to 302.

* We have changed from a 24 Patrol competition format to a 30 Patrol competition format.

* We have added 2 games: Troop 624 is now running the Log Raising Relay, while Troop 638 is running the Hot Lava Rescue Relay.

* Troop 151 has assumed the responsibility of running the Caber Toss event (from Troop 104); Troop 104 retains the Staff Food Administrative task.

* All Patrols will now participate in 8 of 10 possible short events, and both long events. Event series are assigned randomly to all Patrols.

* The two long events (Firebuilding, Obstacle Course) will now be run with 5 Patrols apiece (max), instead of 4 Patrols apiece.

4) ARE YOU PREPARING???

Troop Responsibilities - Important!

We are only 2 weeks away from this year's Projectoree. We are also in the throes of Spring Break - and Tax Season, too. The remaining time will fly by a lot faster than you'd imagine. Are you preparing?

Preparation is not only getting the equipment together, but also getting your staff identified and assembled to practice the event and get their acts together. The earlier you start, the smoother things will go at the Projectoree.

On the events, please prepare and run them AS DESIGNED. Over the past few years, we have had a few Troops who decided to alter the protocols (usually at the last minute), with abyssmal results. Every event in this year's Projectoree has been run as designed at least once before, with complete success. Don't fix it til it's broke.

Who has what?

I have some of the parts to the following events: Bangalore Torpedo, Egg Toss (I think!!!), Log Raising Relay, and Radioactive Basketballs (and Cave Rescue and Obstacle Course, of course). 151 has the parts to the Caber Toss, and I think 638 has the parts to the Hot Lava Rescue Relay. 167 has the Nuclear Reactor. I don't know what else is out there for the Firebuilding Race, Walk the Plank, or Spider Web Escape. If you have all or part of these events, please email me so I can link you up with the Troops running them this year.

Morning Events should be at least "staged" on Friday afternoon, and set up either on Friday or as early as possible on Saturday. All afternoon events except for the log raising relay are quick and reasonably easy to set up (that's why they're afternoon events). However, the Troops running these events need to have teams ready to do their setups while everyone else is eating lunch. Troop 624 should plan on taking time during the morning events to set up the log raising relay (it takes a couple of hours); alternately, 624 may wish to send a few Adults and/or Senior Scouts down on Friday afternoon to do the setup.
