Projectoree 2002
Newsletter #7, 4/21/2002

Greetings to All.

Site Visit Yesterday - The camp is in pretty good shape. Thursday and Friday's massive storms did not do any damage in our camping areas. Fresh sand and gravel has recently been placed on several of the access roads. There are more picnic tables than last year. Very little trash was noted (a pleasant surprise). The field is grassy and in good shape. Most trees are in full bloom already. No one camped on the site this weekend (a large Girl Scount contingent was supposed to be there, but cancelled after the Friday storm).

The camping areas have very little firewood available, so my previous posts on that topic are correct (i.e., bring some). A number of picnic tables will have to be moved (they've herded up nicely since last year). A few fire-rings will need to be installed at some of the more obscure sites (bring work gloves to manhandle!)

Service Projects - Several of the posts outlining the field were knocked out or intentionally removed, and need to be reposted. About half of the trees we planted last year didn't make it, so we'll try again with about 50 more (BTW, this is a typical die-off rate for such plantings, so don't take it personally; we did a good job last year). Several downed trees need to be cut up and stacked.

We need about 3 Adults with quality chainsaws. If you can assist with this, please let me know.

No one has yet contacted me to pick up equipment from my Scout shed. I will be here on and off for most of today (Sunday).

Here is the current status of what I have, and what is missing, among the remaining critical items. "Yes" means Received, "No" means Not Received, "???" means I am still awaiting clarifications.

To date, no one has dropped their attendance by a Patrol, so if you know that you will be doing so, please let me know asap. Troop 111 has two Patrols with the minimum of 6 Scouts, so if no one else condenses, we will. But I'd like to know in advance, please!

Troop Responsibilities - Important!
Are you preparing?

Preparation is not only getting the equipment together, but also getting your staff identified and assembled to practice the event and get their acts together. The more prep you do, the smoother things will go at the Projectoree.

On the events, please prepare and run them AS DESIGNED. Over the past few years, we have had a few Troops who decided to alter the protocols (usually at the last minute), with abyssmal results. Every event in this year's Projectoree has been run as designed at least once before, with complete success. Don't fix it til it's broke!

5 Days to Go!
