Eagle Scout
John Bustamante
John M. Bustamante is the 43rd name engraved on
the Troop 111 Eagle Plaque! (The M., by the way, stands for Marcus.) John
went before his Eagle Board of Review on Sunday, 14 July 1991, and passed (by
all accounts) with flying colors.
His Honor Roll:
- 26 Merit Badges
- 8 Skill Awards
- 2 50-Miler Awards
- Florida Sea Base
- Philmont Scout Ranch
- World Conservation Award
- 2 Scoutmaster Awards (each Second Most Active Scout)
- Assistant Patrol Leader
- Patrol Leader
- Troop Guide
- Senior Patrol Leader
John's Project was the complete rebuilding of a long flight of steps at the southern trailhead of the
main trail at Gulf Branch Nature Center. The trail was overgrown, and most of the steps were
rotting out, or had become twisted out of horizontal by Arlington County maintenance vehicles
driving on them over the past 10 years. The steps were either replaced or re-set, depending on their
condition. The brush was cleared away, and used to construct a wildlife cover habitat in another
section of the Park. Finally, a new sign was placed at the trailhead. This is the Park's most popular
trail, so a badly needed piece of work! Total service hours: 125 - Good Job!
Our thanks to the Board of Review Members John Manning (Chairman), Roy
Mimms (Patawomeck District Eagle Board Representative), Tommy Berra and
Tim Arthurs.
