Jeff's Eagle Project was a renovation and repair of the upper third of the
Brown Creeper Connector Trail at Potomac Overlook Park, plus the
re-installation of several steps and the building of a small footbridge
at the bottom of the trail. The Brown Creeper Connector is the trail
that picks up from the end of the road (past the Nature Center) and cuts
left, sharply downhill to the Donaldson Run Trail. It's one of my
favorites for Philmont training, so you know it's good and steep!
Jeff's Project involved putting in a half-dozen badly needed erosion
barriers (water bars), clearing encroaching brush alongside the trail,
and lining the trail with logs (which helps keep it well defined, and
also keeps the brush from growing into the trail itself.) Finally, the
upper sections were covered with wood chips to help prevent future wear
and tear. Total service: 210 hours! A good project!
Jeff's Eagle Board has to be one of the most prestigious ever assembled
- Hank Dettmar, Carl Doughman, Roy Mimms and our own John Manning - each
a Silver Beaver recipient and totaling a combined 130 years of Scouting
- wow! No, it wasn't planned it that way - it's just the way it played out;
anyway, the Board was most impressed with Jeff, and passed him with
flying colors.
Return to Troop 111
Eagles.
