I. Russell Philpott

Rusty Philpott - passed his Eagle Board of Review on June 1st, 1998 becoming Troop 111's 57th Eagle Scout. Rusty transferred into Troop 111 after
spending his first year and a half with Troop 167 at Mt. Olivet UMC (over
on Glebe Road and 16th Street.)
His Honor Roll:
- 25 Merit Badges
- ca. 60 days of short-term camping
- ca. 52 days of long-term camping, including 2 Philmont treks
- 2 Fifty Miler Awards
- Alonzo Stagg Medal for completing the Troop 111/647 50/20 Hike (one
of 3 finishers from 49 starters)
- Only Boy Scout competing at the last 3 NCAC Boy Scout Golf Classic
(and gave the keynote speech at the luncheons and dinners for all three.)

Rusty's Project was a new one for the Troop - a collection drive for
food, clothing and other basic necessities for two area homeless
shelters: The Shelter House in Falls Church and The Arlington Community
Temporary Shelter (TACTS) in Arlington. Rusty titled the project:
"Scouting for the Homeless," and the collection drive was modelled on
the Scouting for Food Drives the Troop has participated in over the past
10 years. Over 150 hours went into this most worthy project.
Rusty's Eagle Board was Tim Arthurs, Dan Creedon, Hank Dettmar, Mel
Herrmann and Jim Smith. Thanks to all.
