Eagle Scout James L.W. Smith

Completing our fourth and final Eagle of 1998, Jamie Smith, our 60th Eagle Scout, passed his Board of Review with flying colors on Friday, December 18th, 1998. His Honor Roll:

Jamie's Eagle Project was a two-part affair at the Arlington Outdoor Lab in Fauquier County - first, a large overgrown field (the lab's septic field) was completely cleared of brush and a small pond rebuilt. A huge bird blind was built on the cleared ground to enable visiting school children to view birdlife at the multiple feeders and pond. Second, the "Founder's Garden," a large plot just outside the main staff cabin, was completely weeded, mulched and planted with numerous flowers for next Spring. A bench was also assembled at the door of the cabin, for staff members. All told, 510 hours of service time - second only to David Stainback's 535 hour Troop record. An outstanding project, and one that will well serve the Lab's 9,000 annual visitors for many years to come.

Jamie's Eagle Board of Review: Hank Dettmar (Chain Bridge District Eagle Board), Carl Doughman (Chain Bridge Deputy District Commissioner), Gordon Pennington (Chairman), Jane Tuck and Chris Yarbrough. Thanks to one and all who came out one week before Christmas to pass the Troop's 60th Eagle Scout.
