Christmas Gifts for Scouts II

This comes from our friend, Roy Morris, Scoutmaster of Troop 106. Thanks, Roy.
Dear Santa,
Being a very active Scout, I could use a lot of camping, skiing and general outdoor gear. To stimulate your thinking in this area, I could use the following checked items in addition to the computer games, boom box, 42" television, rollerblades, bike, CD's and other stuff I know you already have planned for me.
____ Scout uniform pants (I've outgrown mine)
____ Polypropylene underwear
____ Thor-Lo hiking socks
____ Waterproof hiking boots - Vasque Clarion or Sundowners
____ Coated nylon rain parka
____ Leather work gloves for using saws and axes
____ Second pair of warm, waterproof ski gloves/mittens (I need 2
pair for the ski trip)
____ Ski goggles (also needed for the ski trip)
____ Knit wool winter scout hat
____ Sharpie marker for writing my name on all my gear
____ Pocket spiral note pad for taking notes at meetings
____ Winter weight (0 degree rated) synthetic fill sleeping bag (not
down filled)
____ Mini-Mag lite or the new Eveready two-way light
____ Waterproof pack cover
____ Correct size frame pack (such as Kelty youth model for new
Scouts)
____ One-quart plastic canteen with strap
____ German or Swiss Army surplus wool pants ($20-30)- warmest pants
ever made, but not made in children's sizes, of course)
____ Suspenders to hold my German Army pants up
____ Compass (not too fancy)
____ Leatherman tool or Scout knife (smaller and lighter is better-
prefer lockback knives)
____ Nylon gaiters
As you well know, living at the North Pole and traveling in wet and snowy weather and all that, synthetic fabrics and insulation work even when wet, whereas down and cotton are useless when wet. Think small and light (we don't have reindeer to carry our stuff!)
If your elves are behind in their production, the area Scout Shop is at 9190 Wisconsin Ave., about a mile inside the Beltway (on the right hand side.) They have a complete line of Scout equipment and clothing in stock, all sizes. Their hours are:
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 9am to 6pm.
Thursday 9am to 9pm.
Saturday 10am to 3pm.
Telephone 301-564-1091
Casual Adventure (Washington Boulevard in Clarendon), REI (Baileys Crossroads) and Appalachian Outfitters (in Oakton on 123 off 66) are also good places to find this type of equipment.
