CHASE sailing camp & Eastern High Adventure

Dear Troop 111 Scouts/Adults:

As a result of comments at the September 22, 2002 parent meeting, the Troop is rescheduling the planned CHASE sailing High Adventure AND will offer an additional Eastern High Adventure for Scouts who do not meet the minimum age requirements for the Swiss Trek or CHASE!

CHASE:

CHASE (Chesapeake High Adventure Sailing Experience) is a BSA sailing camp operated by the Colonial Virginia Council. We will attend the week of July 6-12 to permit Scouts going to regular summer camp (Goshen, June 29-July 5) and/or the Swiss Trek (July 16-August 4) also to attend CHASE. Scouts can choose a week-long sail on the Chesapeake ($400) or a week of aquatic activities (sailing, kayaking, canoeing, waterskiing) in camp ($200). Scouts must be 13 by January 1, 2003.

IMPORTANT--A short video (7 minutes) will be shown at the BEGINNING of the meeting Monday October 7--all parents of interested Scouts should attend! An information sheet and deposit/commitment form will be handed out. IN ORDER TO SECURE SPACE AT THE CAMP, A $200 DEPOSIT IS DUE OCTOBER 28, 2002.

EASTERN HIGH ADVENTURE (NEW):

Many parents asked about a high adventure opportunity for younger scouts, as both the Swiss Trek and CHASE are age-restricted by the Scout facilities we will visit. In response, several adults (ASM John K., Jim C., Mike F., and Russ A.) volunteered to plan and support an Eastern High Adventure in the late July to early August time frame, coordinating with other Troop leadership. This trip will take place while the Swiss Trek is going on. Feel free to offer suggestions on what the trip should include! Details will be forthcoming as plans firm up, but families of younger scouts should keep this opportunity in mind for summer 2003!

Ann and Ted G.
