Rideau Canal Update 2....................
Dates
Friday August 7 to Saturday August 15
Cost
$300 per person (includes transportation, food, houseboat rental, fishing supplies, and money for side trips & adventures)
Agenda
The following is a summary of the trip.
We'll be leaving early the morning of Friday August 7th.
The current plan is to convoy up to Smith Falls, Ontario. It's
approximately a 9 to 10 hour drive. FYI, we did look into
chartering a bus but it would add about $100
per person to the cost of the trip. At Smith Falls we'll pick up
the houseboats for a early Saturday morning departure.
From Smith Falls we'll be heading down the Canal (which is a
series of canals and lakes) to Kingston, Ontario. We'll be
passing through approx. 20 locks. As mentioned in the first
letter, the Rideau is an official historical site run and
maintained by the Canadian Park System. The plan is to camp,
fish, swim, canoe, and explore the numerous towns along the
Rideau. Currently, we've reserved 4 large houseboats that are
each capable of carrying approx. 10 people. Each night we'll be
camping on islands or at lock sites along the way. We'll be
returning to Smith Falls on Friday and heading for home on
Saturday morning. A more complete agenda will be coming in the
next month or so.
