Alonzo Stagg "50/20" Hike
March 12th, 2005

For the fourth straight year, Troop 111 has opened its annual Alonzo Stagg Hike (50 miles in 20 hours) to all Chain Bridge Units. The hike will be Saturday, March 12th (rain date Saturday, March 19th).

Some changes from last year:

A few reminders from last year:

Support Staff:

  1. Troop 111 counts on each participating Troop to provide support staff. Please try to adhere to the following guidelines:

Troop 111 needs supporting adults before the hike, at registration, and during the hike. Please refer to the registration form for specific details, days and times.

  1. Support Staff must complete their assignment (unless released by the Event Coordinator) even if their Unit’s hikers have all dropped out earlier than expected.
  2. It may not be possible to meet everyone’s preferred time frame; however, problems (if any) can and will be worked out in the spirit of Scout-like cooperation. Please be understanding and flexible!
  3. Parents/spouses of hikers that walk all 50 miles are encouraged to come to Bluemont Park and provide additional support. This may include walking the final miles with the hiker. This is especially encouraged for parents of the Scouts. Even though the final loop is well lit, it will be dark.

Registration:

  1. Troop POCs are asked to review all registration forms for completeness. Each hiker/support adult must submit a Permission/Liability Release Form. ALL participants (hikers and support staff), who did not submit a medical form for the ASH 2004 Hike, MUST also submit a photocopy of their completed personal medical form. If a Troop does not have a Troop Medical Form, please complete the Troop 111 versions, which can be downloaded at: http://www.troop111.org/newscout.html (two forms; different for Scouts and adults).
  2. On the morning of the hike, any hiker or support staff that submits an incomplete registration package will be sent to the Problem Resolution Table to complete their registration package.
  3. Each Troop should have at least one person who serves as the Troop Registrar during Registration. This person should be familiar, by sight, with all the Scouts and adults that are participating from his/her troop. The person must be a facilitator – able to quickly access any missing medical forms, obtain missing signatures, etc. Larger troops should send multiple Troop Registrars.
  4. The hike is limited to 125 hikers. Register early!
  5. The fee for the hike is $15 – same price as last year. There is no charge for supporting adults. One check, payable to Troop 111, is preferred. Please list “ASH Registration” on the memo line. If the Troop’s number is not listed on the check, please include it near the top personal information.
  6. In order to meet buddy system requirements, the minimum number of hikers per Unit is two – and wherever possible each buddy pair should be matched by hiking speed and expected hike distance.
  7. Please complete the Unit Registration Form.
  8. All forms (Unit Registration Form/Permission/Liability Release Forms/Medical Form Photocopies and the Unit check) should be mailed to - Maggie E.
